Marie & Kristoffer -Aarhus Church Wedding with family & friends
Marie and Kristoffer got married in Aarhus with their two sons and the people who mattered most to them. The church ceremony came first — then the four of them climbed onto a Christiania bike decorated for the occasion and rode through the city to DOKK1, where Kristoffer's best man was waiting.
I was sitting in one of the Christiania bike baskets while Kristoffer pedaled, Marie and their two boys laughing the whole way. The photos were taken mid-ride — not staged, just captured as we moved through Aarhus together. It was one of those moments you can't plan and wouldn't want to. The bike, the boys, the fact that this was their wedding day and they were spending it on wheels.
We did portraits with the boys and the best man on the harbour front at DOKK1. Two kids at a wedding carry their own energy — they're not performing for the camera, which means the photographs look nothing like a posed family session. They look like an afternoon. The weather in September gave us everything: blue sea, golden hour light lying perfectly between their hands during portraits, the kind of Danish autumn day that makes you forget winter exists.
The couple had a quiet moment together after the church and before dinner started. Just the two of them on the waterfront while the boys played nearby. Dinner was at Restaurant Lula — the kind of reception where everyone at the table has been around long enough to know each other's stories. The next morning, we had brunch together with the guests. A cozy setup where people who stayed could actually talk. Such a smart idea.
Marie and Kristoffer's wedding took place in their hometown. Aarhus — Denmark's second city — does weddings on its own terms. A little quieter, a little more itself. Ten hours with me, start to finish.
